The Podravka meat industry begins production in the "Srem Šid" company in the town of Šid

The production of Podravka goulash, minced meat and meat stew began yesterday in "Srem Šid", a plant for the production of meat in the town of Šid. The Šid meat company will supply the necessary raw materials and production facilities necessary to produce Podravka meat products, while Podravka technicians from Koprivnica will be in charge of compliance with Podravka standards.

The production of Podravka goulash, minced meat and meat stew began yesterday in “Srem Šid”, a plant for the production of meat in the town of Šid. The initial quantity of production is planned to be about 80 tons, consisting of Podravka minced meat, goulash and meat stew, exclusively produced for the Serbian market.

The Šid meat company will supply the necessary raw materials and production facilities necessary to produce Podravka meat products, while Podravka technicians from Koprivnica will be in charge of compliance with Podravka standards. The production of meat products in Šid will enable these items to be sold in Serbia where Podravka still has not established this particular range of products due to a ban on the import of beef-based products. Thus, Podravka will become the first foreign producer and distributor of meat products in Serbia.

“Srem Šid”, a joint stock company, was set up as a workshop in 1919. Since those times, it has made substantial investments into modernisation and production technology. In 1988, a new slaughter facility was set up, which is considered to be one of the most modern facilities in Serbia whose products have been exported to the western market and overseas countries. Nowadays, “Srem Šid” is a joint stock company whose basic activities are agricultural production, cattle-breeding, meat production and meat processing, freezing and cooling services, wholesale and retailing, forwarding services, etc.

Dušan Tomašević, Executive Manager of the Podravka meat plant Danica said: “The production of our products in Šid will entail the supply of beef-based raw materials for the Serbian market, which is very important to us due to the lack of beef-based products on that market, and due to the incapacity of obtaining them from abroad. It is our goal to penetrate the Serbian market and establish our position as the market leader, i.e. the top producer of meat products”.

In the first six months of 2001, the meat plant Danica had sales revenue of 105.7 million kuna, which accounts for 8.6% of the overall sales of the Podravka group. 76.5 million kuna of Danica’s sales were made from sales on the domestic market and the remaining 29.2 million kuna were made from the sales of products on foreign markets.
