This week in Podravka a new wastewater collector was launched into test operation in the Danica industrial zone, as well as a reconstructed wastewater purification system which applies a technological purification process. The system will be used for the purification of wastewater from Podravka’s plants. The value of the project amounts to 3,100,000 kuna.

With the new collector, all wastewater produced by Podravka’s plants is directed towards the wastewater purification system of the Danica meat-processing plant. This provides a complete separation of the wastewater produced by the Kvasac factory and that of Podravka’s plants located in the Danica industrial zone.

Several goals have been achieved by the installation of the new collector, such as the protection of the soil, the protection of underground streams and water sources, as well as the redirection of all the wastewater of Podravka’s plants to Podravka’s wastewater purification system, that is, the separation of the Kvasac d.o.o. factory which has become another legal entity. This has also enabled safe and undisturbed drainage of wastewater from Podravka’s production plants in the industrial zone, and a decrease of the fees paid for the discharge of wastewater to the Croatian Waterworks by approx. 50%, as well as a smaller share of Podravka in the expenses for building and exploiting the town wastewater purification system.

With these significant moves, Podravka has not only fulfilled its obligation specified in the “Action Plan for the Protection of the Environment within the Podravka Concern” but has also contributed a great deal to the protection of the environment in our area, particularly to the protection of surface and underground waters, as well as to lowering the costs of exploiting and the fees for water discharge. By reaching their full purification capacity, Podravka’s plants can purify their wastewater to a level which is sufficient for direct discharge into natural water flows instead of into the collector, which was the original goal.
