Podravka Group published Sustainable Development Report for 2006

As a member of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) and one of the founders and members of the Croatian Business Council for Sustainable Development (HR PSOR), Podravka successfully and continuously reports for a number of years on sustainable development to all the interested parties about all the activities and actions taken. Podravka recognized the importance of reporting on sustainable development with the purpose of advancing the quality of living of the present and the future generations and improving its effect on the economy and environment.

The first Report on Sustainable Development Podravka Group published for the year 2003. The second Report was published for the years 2004 and 2005, following the Guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) issued in 2002 (GRI 2). Now the public is presented with a new Report on Sustainable Development of Podravka Group for the year 2006, the first in Croatia built in accordance to the latest Guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative for reporting on sustainability, issued in 2006 (GRI 3). Demanding Level B guidelines were applied in building this report.

Reporting on sustainable development is the practice of measuring, publishing and providing information to Podravka’s the most significant interest parties (stakeholders) within and outside the company on Podravka’s effect and with the purpose of sustainable development. Being aware of the importance of achieving balance among all the aspects of business, since its beginning Podravka operates as a responsible and proactive member of the community in the area of economic development, environment protection and promotion of quality living in the community.

As Podravka’s Management Board President Darko Marinac said, sustainable development and socially responsible business belong into a group of key issues that modern companies, as well as the overall world economy deal with today, and the need to report regularly to the public on results achieved in this area is unquestionable. Continuously reporting on sustainable development Podravka has made a step forward, which placed it among companies that follow European and world trends, justifying the image of an international company and a leader of Croatian economy in the world markets.

As HR PSOR manager Mirjana Matešić said, this report is a significant improvement compared to the last year’s. Podravka took much more seriously the GRI guidelines and replied to all the significant indicators. Special progress can be read in the social component of the report which provides not only detailed information on all the key social impacts, but also shows that even in practice Podravka tries to follow global trends of responsible business by implementing new initiatives. Reading about the significant economic, environmental and social impacts, the stakeholders get the opportunity to evaluate the effects of this organization in this stated reporting period.
